I have a cosigner that has excellent credit that will cosign for me to get a credit card to build my score plus to have for emergencies. My score is a 585. I pay my bills on time and don't spend alot of money on dumb things. I just don't have anything but a car loan giving me credit and a couple of old accounts that need taken care of.
Major credit card issuers like Discover, American Express and Chase offer a credit card for bad credit holders. A 'shopping' card offers you an unsecured line of credit from specific sellers. Use these cards to increase your credit rating, since the credit bureaus will be informed about your timely payments. Take care to ensure your credit is good by making intelligent credit choices. Keep low balances, do not be extravagant and take care to pay off your balances promptly every month.

Because there is a huge market of people with no SSN, typically illegal immigrants or dependents of some types of legal immigrants
If you just have 1 million illegal immigrants, that's a HUGE market to tap. As such, Lending Tree (rightly or wrongly) wants to reach this big market
In fact, some banks even offer mortgage loans to illegal immigrants. Here's an article from CNN focusing on this topic http://money.cnn.com/2005/08/08/news/economy/illegal_immigrants/index.htm

Neither my husband or I have any credit. We have a car in his name, but the co-signer is his mother (because we don’t have any established credit). I kept all of our bills in my name (like electric, gas and what not). We do not have a cell phone provider that gives us any credit b/c we like the company that we have.
We’ve applied for several credit cards, and keep getting denied. I’ve even resulted in trying to apply for a Sears card, Victoria Secret card and so on… we’re denied because we don’t have any existing credit. I even went to my bank, and they are unable to help us with anything.
What can I do to start my credit? If I am being denied for not having credit, how can I build credit?! I’m confused! Please help!
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Capitol One, Victoria’s Secret, Macy’s, Sears… no one will give us a card!

I am 20 years old, moved to the US 4 years ago, and just recently received my social security number. I have a savings account at Chase, and a debit card that I hardly ever use. I want to apply for a credit card to start building my credit history. Where should I apply? I heard that if one is denied many times, it harms one's credit history. Should I apply at a store like Macy's or Shoprite or something?
Yes, start with a store card, any major retail chain. If that doesn't work, check with your bank and see if they issue secured credit cards. They put a hold on part of your savings and give you a credit limit up to that amount. Gas cards (issued by the major oil companies) are another option, they have a low limit so they are easier to get.
Once you get a card, you need to use it in order to establish your credit history, but be sure the payments are on time. Credit issuers don't report the fact that you got turned down, but they definitely report inquiries (the fact that they checked your credit because you applied for a card or loan), and too many inquiries will hurt your credit score. So do not apply at a lot of places. Pick a mid-level store like JC Penney and see what happens.
Also, having too many credit cards can be a negative. Once you establish credit you will be inundated with credit card offers. Resist the tempation - keep two or three bank, store and/or gas cards and stick them them.

i want to check my credit score, but i don't want to enter my credit card number to get it. anyone know of a site where it's actually free to do this?
Each year you are entitled to one free credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies from the following site:
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/i…
You can get all three reports at the same time, or get them at different times during the year.
Note: Despite the misleading name, https://www.freecreditreport.com charges for credit reports. Don't fall for the gimmick.
